In my last year at school you could choose certain activities from a selection to take part in each week. The trampoline would be set up, you could play squash, the teacher would usually be helping the netball team or you could use the weight machines.

I spent the entire last year filing my nails while watching the boys lift weights. Or at least knows one. What is the scariest ghost story you've ever heard?

View 500 Answers

Someone told me this story when I was about 7 and (being an utter wimp) I took ages to get over it.

A young boy had a dog that would sleep under his bed every night. If he woke up scared or felt uneasy he would put his hand out and the dog would lick his hand. He then felt safe.

One night he was woken by the sound of drip... drip... drip. He put out his hand, the dog licked it. He turned over and went back to sleep.

In the morning he found his dog hanging by it's neck in the shower. Written in blood on the wall was

"MURDERERS CAN LICK HANDS TOO"

Doesn't seem that bad now (then again, I'm 27!)

Me, Zoe and whoever happened to be around at the time used to always play Hide and Seek in the dark. Was better outside round the block but we used to play it in the house too. Really good fun.

Now, my favourite game is the Sims! How dull have I become!

Selfish Drivers

Just a note to the stupid cow driving a Nissan Qashqi (or however you spell it) this morning.

Thank you so much for hogging the fast lane and refusing to move over to let traffic past. The huge line of traffic you caused and the amount of people you caused to undertake you was truly tremendous. You should be contratulated that you can manage to apply your lipstick in the rear view mirror and never notice the cars behind you. I would have thought my hand gestures utterly clear.

Happy driving.

The title

I'm sitting at the computer desk in the spare room pondering over old photos and wondering, what on earth happened?

It started earlier today when I got an email from Facebook saying someone I went to school with (and haven't seen since) has added me as a friend. "Friend" in the term I think of would be an inappropriate name to give our current status but in the Facebook terms I'm sure it perfectly fine. I had a look at the profile of this person and the photos they have and I can't find the person I went to school with. This person is completely different.

One photo allowed me to see their smile is sort of the same but the face has changed. It's so odd.

It got me thinking about the girl I was at school and wondering if I have changed at all. I don't think I have. I always knew I was vanilla and my life has reflected that really! I don't mean that in a negative sense but some people have done things and been places I have never thought of. How did the skinny girl who smoked instead of eating, who had theories about the death of Kurt Cobain, who hated Home Economics, who was bullied, who thought she wouldn't be able to cope without Mel and Claire and who didn't have a boyfriend, become Mrs David Parkin?

I hear people talk about books I have never read or discuss philosophy and I can't follow it sometimes. If I had taken a different route would I be the same person now? If I had stayed on at 6th form would I have gone to University and become a writer, living in genteel poverty with 16 cats and a leaky ceiling? If I had gone to college and studied Art would I still be living with my mother at 25?

Do I need to read these books you "should" read before you die? Do I need to know what Nietzsche said? Do I need to know the periodic table? Some people say you do and look down on you for not.

If I had done any of these things or learnt any of these things would I be sitting in this house right now with the man I love downstairs, the books I love on the shelves, the smell of incense burning on the windowsill and the bouquet of roses and lillies Dave bought me for no reason at all?

I think I did ok.

Some good news

About time I had some good news to share and here it is. My friend Helen has asked Dave and I to be Godparents for little Isaac!

I'm thrilled to bits. She knows my views on religion but I respect the fact that she believes in all this crap and I'm really honoured she's asked us for this. I have to do a reading and Dave has to say a prayer (he's terrified) and I'll be wearing my power suit to frighten all the church-goers.

Can't wait, I'm well happy!

News in Brief

I've been for my blood tests and pelvic exam (is there anything more humiliating to women than this?) and I get the results in a week.

I'm being sent for an ultrasound when the doctor sends me a letter.

Dave has been in a car crash with a 90 year old man and completely written off the Saxo. Wasn't his fault, the old man didn't look then accused my Dave of speeding. Bastard. Dave has tremendous whiplash and a bruise on his neck the size of Wales from the seatbelt.

At least it gave me something else to think about.

When I get a mo I'll post a proper account of the above.

Bourne crapiness

On TV last night was the second part of the Bourne trilogy.

I stopped watching when Matt Damon was fighting with some french bloke in a kitchen, the french bloke pulls a knife and Matt Damon rolls up a magazine to defend himself. Matt Damon wins.

I mean puh-lease!

Herr Dye (get it?)

Looks like dying hair is in the air! An acquaintance of mine has just gone red and I've just gone very purple indeed.

I look like vintage me. Me when I was 17. I like it!

Think I might frighten the old guys when I go into work tomorrow but who cares. They employed someone they thought was a nice girl, its about time I killed their illusions. So far I have been nice, I wore matching earrings and everything.

So. Today I made Sunday dinner. Well, made might be a stretch of the word and Zoe is bound to rat me out! Mam brought a chicken and I cooked real chips and something with basil in it (I forget what it was) and vegetarian for Zoe. It was a feast. Mama then dyed my hair and half the kitchen (thank god for Domestos).

I can't write. Star Trek is on and I'm missing a good episode. Anyone else find Brent Spiner very attractive?
